Floods-The Most Common Natural Disaster

4/29/2016 (Permalink)

Flooding in Texas- April 2016

Floods are one of the most common natural disasters in the United States. Whether you live near a coastline, near a river or even in the desert, there is a potential for suffering flood damage. Unlike any other natural disasters such as hurricanes that have typical peak season, flooding can occur anywhere and anytime. Floods cause billions of dollars a year in property damage.  Approximately 90 percent of all presidentially declared natural disasters involve flooding.

These are some of the flood terms used to identify a flood hazard:

-A flood watch indicates that conditions are favorable for flooding to develop. Be prepared to move to higher ground.

-A flood warning means that flooding is occurring or will occur soon.  If advised to evacuate, do so immediately.

-A flash flood warning means that flash flooding is occurring or imminent. Move to higher ground immediately.

If a flood does strike your home or business, give SERVPRO of Gilbert a call. We are prepared to handle any size disaster. The sooner we get to work on your home or business means a better chance of restoring your property. It also reduces the chance of mold caused by standing water.
