Wet Insulation?

1/26/2022 (Permalink)

Can you allow insulation to dry without taking the damaged product out?

The short answer is no.

As insulation is a fluffy material, the challenge arises once it becomes wet and compacts. Insulation ratings are measured in R-values per inch of thickness. An R-value tells you how well a type of insulation can keep heat from leaving or entering your home. Added water and the resulting loss of thickness to the insulation materials cause its R-Value to decrease; making it less effective.

Furthermore, while the insulation itself may not create a source for mold to grow, it may generate fuel for mold to grow on the wood structures in your ceiling and walls. As a result, the integrity of the building can be significantly impaired.
